The Fear of the Lord

Imagine this scenario. You go to the doctor and he tells you that you have a terminal illness and you have only a short while to live.

What do you do?

You'd get a second opinion, right?

And, what do you when that doctor agrees with the first doctor?

You'd get a third opinion, right?

They all agree that at best, you have a year to live. They tell you there will be no effects of the illness until the very end when the disease has reached the end of its course.

When do you stop seeking opinions and live what's left of your life?

In the Handbook to Wisdom by Kenneth Boa he says this, "How would this scenario affect your vision of life, your roles on this earth, and the way you should invest your remaining time? The degree to which it would alter your remaining time? The degree to which it would alter your present perspective and practice is the distance between your current view of live and biblical view of life. The latter emphasizes the brevity of our earthly sojourn and stresses the urgency of investing our most precious asset, time, in a way that will have lasting consequences. The former view typically denies the imminence of death and, for all practical purposes, treats the temporal as though it were eternal."

"Lord, make me to know my end and what is the measure of my days; and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life." -- Psalms 39:4

"Teach me to number my days, that I may gain a heart of wisdom." -- Psalms 90:12

What would you do in this situation?

Being Still Amid a Busy Life

A woman has a very busy life. There are kids, family, husbands, bosses, friends, pets, finances, homes and more that take up her time.

Studies show that not only is the average woman busy from the time she gets up to the tie she goes to bed, but she also is reducing her sleep time because she has too much to do.

Does this sound like you?

You must learn to slow down. It takes self-determination and control. But it can happen.

Being busy all the time not only affects a woman's physical life, but their spiritual life as well. I know. It's really hard to slow down for anything, even for God.

God can help put your life in perspective. To do so, you must be still and know God. When you take time to be with God, you can build a better relationship with Him. When you focus on God, you can remember how vast He is. God knows everything. Always remember that.

God is everywhere. He's the focus of the universe. Knowing all of this really puts your life into perspective, don't you think?

When you are still, you are refreshed spiritually. You gain a new sense of how important you are to God.

Just think about it.

Be still. Listen for God's voice. He loves you. God whispers his love, support and reassurance to you.

Can you do it? Can you be still enough to hear God's voice?

Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the Earth! -- Psalm 46:10

Your House is on Fire - What to Save?

Have you ever been asked the question, "If your house was on fire and you had three minutes to grab anything, what would you save?"

What was your answer?

Did you think long and hard about what you wanted to save or did you just say the first things that popped into your head?

Was it your photo albums?

Was it your phone?

Was it your computer?

Was it your purse or wallet?

Was it a person?

What would you save out of your burning house if you only had three minutes?

Think for a minute.

What is most important in your life?

Is it the electronic gadgets and material possessions that are more important to you? Who decides what is important? Is it the society that bombards you with ideas of what's more important in your life?

Maybe you should listen to your heart. Seek the internal truth. In 1 John Chapter 2: 16-17:

"These are the ways of the world: wanting to please our sinful selves, wanting the sinful things we see, and being too proud of what we have. None of these come from the Father, but all of  them come from the world. The world and everything that people want in it are passing away, but the person who does what God wants lives forever."

In a world where you are bombarded by fabricated needs, it helps to keep your internal compass on the truth.

Material items are fine for this world, but you can't take them to heaven with you.

Think about this: Periodically assess your life and discern what's really valued in your life. Remember, invest in what you can take with you to heaven.

Now, if your life ended tomorrow, think about what you'd take with you and what intangibles you would leave behind. Keep your life in perspective. If you ask yourself this question periodically, it would help you center on what is really important in your life - what you know is truly a priority.

Would you like to answer the house burning question differently?
